~ AMAZING GRACE ~

{Jesus said,} "God so Loved the World that He gave His only begotten

Son, that whoever Believes in Him should not Perish but

have Everlasting Life."

During a Conference on World Religions held in Great Britain, some o the greatest Theologians in the World began a friendly Debate as to what Belief ~ if any ~ in the Christian Faith made it unique from the other Religions of the World.

The Debate soon grew heated as possibilities were considered and eliminated. Could it be the Incarnation? No, there were other Religions that had Gods who took on the form of a Human. Could it be the Resurrection? No, there were some Religions in the World that held claim to accounts of a return from death.

Eventually C.S. Lewis entered the room to see what the commotion was about, and when he heard the topic up for Debate, he nonchalantly responded. "Oh, that's easy! It's GRACE." After further discussion, the "Experts" had to agree.

The idea that God freely offers Salvation ~ no matter what good or bad deeds we have done ~ is unique among all Religions of the World. Buddhists in China, Muslims in Saudi Arabia, Hindus in India ~ all are seeking a way to Please God by the things that they do, the Sacrifices they make, the Penances they perform. But God's Love is Unconditional: Your performance doesn't matter!

Jesus has already paid the price ~ and because of "HIS SACRIFICE", "GOD'S GRACE" is available to you today. All you have to do is "ACCEPT IT".

No wonder the Famous Hymn calls this sort of GRACE, "AMAZING"!

GRACE FOR TODAY:

Salvation cannot be earned. It is a "Freely Given Gift", unearned and unmerited.

~ NO WALLS, BAD CITY ~

A Man without Self~Control

is like a City broken into

and left without Walls . . .

Proverbs 25:28

*KNOWLEDGE IS POWER*, but the best and Most Useful Form of that Power is Power over Ourselves. So said the Philosopher Spinoza, whose words could have come straight from the Bible. As you may already know, the Bible is thoroughly Pro~Self~Control, which puts it in Opposition to our Culture, which tells us that giving in to every Selfish Impulse is a Good Thing.

Our Ancestors could not have grasped this. They would have asked the Obvious Questions: How can you even Develop a Self if you have no Self~Control? How can People get along well in the World if each one is at the Mercy of the Others' Impulses?

Proverbs 25:28 compares Self~Control to the Walls of a City. With no Walls, a City was Defenseless, almost certain to be attacked by enemies from without. With no Self ~ Control, a Person is Defenseless, certain to be at the Mercy of his Own Impulses. Aside from his Impulses Harming Himself, they can do tremendous Damage to the People around Him. Think of some Basic Problems of Contemporary Society ~ Alcoholism, Drug Addiction, Predatory Sexuality, Street Crime ~ and you can Trace them all to People giving in to their Worst Inclinations. And by Failing to Practice Self~Control, they grow Less and Less able to Exert it.

It is appropriate that Proverbs 25:28 uses the Image of an Undefended City: the Main Reason that so many Cities Today are Hellish Places to Live is that so many of the Inhabitants have no Self~Control. Graffiti, Muggings, Road Rage, Physical and Verbal Abuse, the Taken~For~Granted Lack of Courtesy that Grates on every~one's Nerves ~ chalk them all up to Lack of Self~Control. Even when we aren't Affected Directly, we Live in the Fear of other People Losing Control.

One of my College Classmates works with an After~School Program with Junior High/Middle School Kids, Teaching them to Abstain from Sex until Marriage. Does the Program Work? In terms of 100 Percent Effectiveness, No. In terms of Some Effectiveness, Yes. Children and Teens know something Instinctively: you can't go through Life without Rules and Boundaries. Some Behaviors have to be off~limits. They expect Adults to be Boundary~Setters, and they have more Respect for the Adult who says, "Just Say No" than the Adult who says, "When you do Engage in Sex, be sure to use Protection, and . . ."

The same applies to Drug and Alcohol Programs that Emphasize "Just Say No." It seems pretty clear that too many Adults have abandoned their Tasks as Standard~Setters and Teachers of Self~Control, and the Young Folks have responded in the predictable way, not Respecting those Adults. Happily, some Grown~ups prefer doing the Right Thing to being "Cool," and Kids Respect this.

Kids need to Hear the Same Message as Adults: the Real Hero is the Person who Conquers His Evil Inclinations. Ultimately, the only Power a Person has is that which he Exercises over Himself. True Power is Knowing that You can, but you Don't.

Resolution: Think of People you know who are "Severely Lacking in "Self~Control." Are those People Happy? Have you ever considered Suggesting to those People that they might try Not Giving in to all Their Impulses?

~ ANGEL WINGS ~

ANGELS GUARD US, Guide us, Watch over us, and Bring us*Comfort, Courage, and Hope*. They are God's Messengers, reaching out to us to Remind us of his Love and Concern for Us.

Throughout recorded history, Angels appear again and again in the crucial moments of people's lives. In the Bible, an Angel spoke to Mary. Other Angels sang at the *Birth of Jesus, God's Son*. Another Angel warned Joseph to flee with his family into Egypt for safety. And Angels stood watch over the empty *Easter Tomb*.

In our Lives, Angels are as close as others' outstretched hands. They Reach for us with hands of Support, Patting our Shoulders in Encouragement, Tending us in illness and darkest Despair, and holding our hands when we are Afraid.

We recognize God's Message to us through his Ministering Angels. We are not alone! God Cares. He always has and always will. Perhaps that's why Angels Fascinate us and why we watch Angel Movies and Television Shows, Read Angel Books, Wear Angel Jewelry, and Collect Angel Figurines. My Collection of Sacred Angel Figurines ~ have become my Extended Family. As I look at all their faces, I feel a Great Sense of Calm. I have named some of my Sacred Angels, however, I have collected them since 1999. The best name for all of them would be My Blessed Family . . . Love, Faith and Hope! They represent Blessings, Calm, Company, Strength and Power. ( I could continue on . . . and on . . . :-) I am so . . . Blessed!

Most of us hear Stories from Friends and Family ~ amazing Tales of Angels Intervening to Protect or Guide. With every Angel Story, we feel Anew the Awe and Wonder of their Presence, the Sense of Security that they're close by and watching over us, and above all else, the Promise that God Cares Enough to Send Them.

We Decorate Christmas Trees with Angels, listen eagerly to Angel Stories, and hold in the *Secret Places of our Hearts and Expectation that Angels Hover Nearby*. At any Moment, they might Appear as a Loved One, a Stranger, or Another of God's Creatures, when we need them most. And when they do, they Touch us, and we are Forever Changed, for *They Have Become a Real Presence in our Lives*.

Experience the Joy and Security of knowing that these Angelic Messengers are Part of our Lives, share the *Comfort and Hope*, Faith and Blessings they Bring, and Draw Strength and Peace knowing Angels come to us because *God Loves Us*. *God has a Constant
Protective Presence*. You may hear Angel Wings ~ Beating Gently Upon Your *HEART*!

followers have done so for centuries.

Few acts have a greater impact on those who

mistreat us an abuse us than our telling

them we Forgive them, and we are

asking God to Forgive them too.

Keep fervent in your

Love for one another, because Love

covers a Multitude of Sins.

Lord, I ask You to Help me push my flesh and my feelings aside when I am tempted to be Down and Depressed. Your Word Promises that I'll be encouraged if I Fellowship with the Saints, so I ask You to help me shove my lying emotions out of the way, get out of my house and stop Focusing on my defeat.

Give me the Strength of Will to go "Attach Myself to a Band of Believers" who will Encourage me to Stand Up, Stand Tall, and fight like someone who has the armor and the "Power of God" Working in my Life.

I Declare the Satan does not have the Power to keep me Down and Depressed! When Life comes against me and the Deveil tries to tell me that I have no Hope of ever getting out of my Problems, I run to people of Faith so I can ge Encouraged. I am Faithful in my Church Attendance, and I Receive Encouragement every time I get in God's Presence and Rub Shoulders with the People of God.

Lord, I Thank You for Washing Me with the Blood of Jesus and for Making me Brand New.

Forgive me for clinging to my old ways of Thinking and of Doing Things. Today, I ask You to Help Me Drop Those Old Habits and Attitudes and to never pick them up Again.

By Myself, this would be almost Impossible, but I know that by Your Power, I can walk FREE. Right Now, I Release those Old Attitudes and Habits that I've been carrying around with me for so long.
